Museum Education is the Art of empowering visitors to make personal,
meaningful connections with ideas and objects on display. It demands a
thorough knowledge of the many ways in which people learn and a sensitivity
to the fact that the accessibility of an object is based on the
individuals' accumulation of prior knowledge and preparedness to aproach
the concept represented by that object. Museum eduction is about learning
from primary sources and providing tools for visitors to interpret objects
on their own so they walk away with something relevant. I believe museum
education is more about the ways we enable people to reach a better
understanding of their world than it is about the content of our specific
collections, exhibitions or interpretations.
