The Fundamentals of Digital Projects
Are you considering digitizing part of your collection? Are you
interested in getting more out of your current digitization project? The
Illinois Digitization Institute is pleased to again offer two FREE
one-day workshops on the fundamentals of digitization for libraries,
museums, and archives. Each workshop will explore the basic theories and
practices of digitization and will include opportunities for hands-on
learning.
Workshop participants will learn:
- §
When
imaging is the appropriate treatment for
materials;
- §
Planning
for an imaging project--staffing, equipment, time allocation, storage
requirements, cost;
- §
How
to follow image scanning and quality
standards;
- §
Ways
to create derivative images for access;
- §
Archival
and preservation practices for digital
images;
- §
Flatbed
scanning techniques;
- §
Digital
photography techniques.
Workshops will last from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM and will be held at the
Grainger Engineering Library on the campus of the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign. The workshops are free, but participants are
responsible for their own transportation and lunch. Class size is limited
to the first 15 individuals who register and preference is given to
employees of institutions in Illinois. Space permitting, we will honor
requests for multiple participants from a single institution.
