bookstores order books by the ISBN. since it's SPECIFIC to the specific
volume, it's the only sure way to guarantee you're getting the book
you're ordering.
getting it into the store is a different question entirely; if the
book's being handled by a major distributor, the company's sales
representatives will present it to their clients (stores). from that
point, it's the buyer's decision: can they sell it, how does it compare
to the rest of the titles that are available on the subject, how's the
price point, does the book look good, is the author doing any publicity,
is the publisher doing any publicity, etc. etc.
it then "sits" in books-in-print until the publisher claims it's
out-of-print --

>>>Questions:

When an ISBN number is given, the book goes into the Books in Print.

How do bookstores order the book? Or do thety order the book
automatically?
Or does the book just sit in Books In Print? How do you get the book on
the
shelves?

Thanks
Jessica
