On an NJN (New Jersey Network) show called Burt Wolf:Travels and Traditions,
a curator at a house on Lake Geneva in Switzerland said that beds were
shorter because people sat up when they slept. They sat up, he said, because
there was a belief that only dead people laid down in beds, so if one were to
lie down in bed he would not wake up. interesting theory, just thought i'd
throw it out there. personally, the bed looked average length to me ;)
