Jason (et al): I have always paid the special exhibition fee on top of the regular admission fee; I would hardly call this price gouging. The standard admission fee gives you access to the regular exhibits, and the extra fee gives you access to the special exhibit. I don't see anything unusual about this at all. > I was wondering if it anyone out there had any other similar experiences > like this at another non-profit museum. Is it common for museums to charge > additional fees to see special exhibits? I can understand a dollar or two > but nearly $8 seems quite high and requiring visitors to pay for regular > admission as well as special exhibit fees seems a bit much don't you think? > Isn't this a violation of federal non-profit standards? > > Jason Aikens I doubt that even the $8 special admission fee brought the special exhibition into 'profitable' status. Special traveling exhibitions can be quite expensive (tens of thousands of dollars) and sometimes the only way to recoup even a portion of the expense is with an additional entry fee. Jill R.
