I don't know if this went out or not--was having computer troubles. If so, pardon the double post. I was wondering what downfalls or positive things did 9/11 do to your museums capital campaign or other fundraising efforts, in relationship to receiving charitable donations. Earlier, what effect did Clinton's Tax Act of 1993 do to your financial support and donations? I have heard that "in general, the more recent work suggests that the stimulative effect of the deduction for charitable contributions, although not negligible, is small---and the windfall to contributors larger---than some economists had previously assumed." (See: http://www.hertiage.org/library/categories/bugettax/fyi135/html, p 3). Reports seem to indicate less giving, for example: "From 1982 to 1989, while mariginal tax rates were falling, real annual giving by individuals rose by 27.8 percent. After two increases in tax raes in 1990 and 1993, by contrast, giving apparently declined through 1994." (Ibid.) Questions: 1) Did Clinton's efforts boost your major gift and solicitations you received or create more nightmares? 2) With what happened on 9/11 and the change in the tax laws, has your support by federal, state and local grants decreased/increased? And from private corporations or individuals has there been a decreased/increase? 3) If your museum has lost such funding, what programs (i.e., have you started to charge admission, increased admission, asking for more local support, etc.) has your museum/organization put into place to compensate for the loss in these funds due to the tax laws and/or 9/11? 4) Has the Tax Act of 1993 and/or what happened on 9 - 11 made your organization reorganize your fundraising/development programs? Has your organization/museum refocus (changed your mission, vision, etc.) and efforts to seek new means of financial support? If so, can you provide examples? Thanks in advance!
