The writer was merely requesting a courtesy. There was no "tantrum", unless three "pleases" and three exclamation points constitute a tantrum. For the practical reason mentioned, plus fear of virus problems, messages without a subject line are an annoyance. If you have a high volume of listserv mail and like to delete without reading messages which don't interest you, those without subject lines pose a slight quandary--to delete or not delete? The more ruthless and time-strapped among us may opt to delete, thereby decreasing the sender's audience. If you're as hopelessly curious as I am, you pause, then read them anyway. Anyone can forget to fill in a subject line occasionally, and it's no big deal. But I see nothing wrong with an occasional reminder about netiquette, and I think we'd do well to let such remarks pass without extended threads of agreement and/or debate. True, in the grand scheme of things, it's not as important as many other "things going on in the world," but that doesn't mean it's so trivial that it deserves ridicule. IMHO.
