Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village Simmons Internship Program 2002 Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village is accepting applications for the 2002 Simmons Internship Program. Designed for students enrolled in graduate programs interested in pursuing careers in history, American studies, museum studies or related fields, the Simmons Internship Program provides participants with an exceptional opportunity to experience life in a major American history museum. During the summer of 2002, each Simmons Intern will work on one of two projects. - Sound Recordings Documentation Project – The collection consists of popular and classical cylinder and disc recordings from Edison, Victor and Columbia, among others, and dates from 1895 to 1930. The intern will work with a curator to identify and catalog the collection. - Abraham Lincoln Artifact Documentation Project – An eclectic collection including sculpture, prints, furniture and other artifacts depicting or associated with the life of Abraham Lincoln requires registration, research and basic cataloging. The intern will work with a curator and a registrar. Two internships will be awarded. Each intern will work directly with a curator who serves as a mentor. In addition to completing specific project assignments, Simmons Interns are encouraged to participate in the larger life of the institution in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the varied aspects of museum work. The capstone experience of the internship is a formal public presentation of project results. Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, the largest indoor-outdoor museum in the United States, has an extensive collection with major holdings in American technology, transportation, and domestic life. The Benson Ford Research Center houses an outstanding collection of automotive history, design history, and advertising materials. STIPEND AND TERM OF INTERNSHIP: The Simmons Internship Program is funded by the Vera W. and Walter E. Simmons Endowment Fund. Interns are awarded stipends of up to $ 1400 per month, with a maximum internship length of three months. Preference will be given to those applicants who can participate the full three months. Projects typically begin at the end of the spring term, but starting and ending dates for individual internships are negotiable.
