SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Amherst Museum, a mid-sized local history museum in
western NY, is seeking a 9 month grant-funded Collections Management
Intern to assist with relocating collections into our new on-site Collections
Storage building from their current off-site locations. Typical tasks
will include, but not be limited to: packing objects, cataloging,
numbering, tracking objects, and rehousing objects as needed. Data will be
entered into Regis, our computer database system.
The stipend for this internship is $9,500 for 9
months (40 hrs/week) and includes housing (and utilities) in an on-site
furnished 3-bedroom house.
The qualifications for this internship are: 1)
Enrollment or recent graduate of a graduate program in Museum Studies, or
closely related field; 2) A basic knowledge of and some experience with artifact
handling techniques, general museum collection management practice; 3)
Experience --or willingness to learn-- computer software designed for
collections management. 4) Additionally, the Intern must be physically capable
of performing the functions required tasks, including but not limited to lifting
a maximum of 50 lbs.
