The current Small Museum Administrators Committee definition of a small museum is one with a budget of $350,000 or less. I have just started the ball rolling with AAM to think about raising that to $500,000 (which is the number the Publications Competition currently uses). We'll have to take a look at the number of museums with budgets between $350,000 and $500,000 and see where they would best fit. If members of the list have any thoughts on the matter I'd be interested in hearing from them OFF LIST [that means you have to cut and paste to my address]. My own definition certainly involves the multiple hat scenario. As I once explained to my boyfriend when he asked the difference between curator and director (I originally had both titles), a curator works with the collections, does research, publishes and creates exhibits, and a director crawls around the basement looking for mouse droppings with the pest control company. In my case she also shovels snow and changes light bulbs. :) janice Janice Klein Interim Chair, SMAC DIrector, Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, Kendall College [log in to unmask] ========================================================= Important Subscriber Information: The Museum-L FAQ file is located at http://www.finalchapter.com/museum-l-faq/ .
