Good Afternoon Indigo Nights, In response to question #2. I would ask a potential employer 5 questions: 1. What 3 or 4 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) are they looking for in a successful candidate? See if these KSAs match what is on the job description. Sometimes they don't. 2. What 2 or 3 high priority issues do they want this position to address in the first year (in 3 years)? Sometimes these are not mentioned in the job description or job announcement. 3. What specific 1 or 2 high priority projects (with deadlines and performance indicators) do they want this position to complete in the first year (in 3 years)? I would hope that these would be addressed in the job interview. 4. Has the organization completed a SWOT report recently (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)? Will they provide you with a copy? What is really important.......are they name (and agree to) the major SWOTs without looking at the report and give you a 1 to 2 minute oral synopsis of the report? 5. Ask them if they enjoy working (here) and why? They should say it is a enjoyable and fun place to work...... if they don't......it probably means just that......it is not an enjoyable and fun place to work! It would help if you are a seasoned poker player when they answer this question. Remember that most communication is non-oral.......learn to read body language. I hope this helps, Wesley S.
