Here in the buckle of the bible belt, Rock Hill commissioned four identical
statues for the gateway to the city to represent Civitas or some such
thing. The statues are four young women, tastefully clad in floor to
ceiling drapery, holding wreaths in their outstretched hands. I am told the
artist was made to - er, de-emphasize certain frontal and rear protrusions
on these ladies. Makes me hurt every time we drive by.
