Around 1990 Grand County Historical Association opened it's
second site and began charging admission at both sites. Their Grand County
Historical Museum in Hot Sulphur Springs, CO had been free/donation. I
arrived in 1992. Their attendance had dropped but their income had
sky-rocketed. The drop in attendance may have been attributable to a
second site opening. As I recall they did not charge school groups.
I left GSHA about a year later and have no information on how their statistics
were after that. A review of the data in old issues of The Official Museum
Directory would give you information if you do not wish to contact the
association.>>>

I was wondering if there was any information out there
on museums that had
changed from a free museum to a fee based museum.
What were the short/long
term impacts on visitors, attendance, and/or
revenue?
