The Civil War Preservation Trust is pleased to announce that they are accepting nominations for inclusion in the newest edition of the Official Guide to the Civil War Discovery Trail. The Civil War Discovery Trail, named 1 of only 16 National Millennium Trails by the White House, links more than 500 sites in 28 states to inspire and teach the story of the Civil War and its enduring impact on America. The Trail includes battlefields, historic homes, stations on the Underground Railroad, cemeteries, parks and other sites that bring history to life. Stops along the trail introduce visitors not only to military history, but also to the political, social and human dimensions of the war. Civil War Discovery Trail sites are especially selected for their historic significance and educational opportunities. The Civil War Preservation Trust created the Civil War Discovery Trail with support from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Park Service, and in partnership with state tourism and historic preservation agencies, and communities across the nation that were touched by the war. The Civil War Preservation Trust developed the trail to promote education and to encourage historic preservation and heritage tourism.
