I understand that the DOE is trying to collect and review applicants in an
efficient way, but being that an email is tantamount to sending a postcard
electronically (i.e. anyone who really wants to can read it), I think it is
dangerous to request that applicants send their social security numbers via
email. Isn't there a safer alternative?
