Dear George, I worked with the Shaw Heritage Museum in Washington, DC to develop their volunteer and intership program, as well as some recruiting for the Historical Society of Washington, DC. As far as developing the "job descriptions", we focused our attention on the needs of the organization and the person best suited for the "job". We also incorporated the mission of the museum and the goals for the particular projet and how a volunteer/intern would benefit from the experience. The "job descriptions" we worked with were for oral historians, exhibit designers, historians, and photographers. To recruit, we used volunteermatch.org, which is web site for non profit organizations. We also solicited area universities. Hope this helps. Danette T. Does anyone have information they can share or point me to? I tried looking in the Museum-L archives but didn't find much except for several useful messages on gifts for volunteers. I'd really appreciate samples of guidelines, forms, and procedures, as well as recruiting and retention techniques. Here's some context: We're participating in a large meeting in June with an opportunity to recruit our first volunteers. So our immediate task is to prepare some kind of brochure to hand out and some kind of form for potential volunteers to return to us. Thank you!
