The Director plans, organizes and manages the overall operation of Historic Speedwell and, in partnership with the Board of Trustees, provides direction and vision for the Museum’s long-term growth and development. QUALIFICATIONS Advanced degree in museum studies, history or related field. Experience in museum or education with knowledge of long-range planning, administration, and fund-raising. Strong communication skills, creativity, and initiative. Impeccable integrity with the capability of providing effective leadership, vision and strategic direction. He or she leads the staff, support organizations and the membership. RESPONSIBILITIES Serves as chief administrator of Historic Speedwell with the responsibilities of planning and implementing all museum programs, appointing staff and supervising the work and professional standards of all museum personnel. The Director is responsible for budget development and administration, resource and audience development, public and governmental relations, collections care, educational and public programs, exhibitions and donor cultivation, as well as performing and/or overseeing all research and grant proposals. Serves as the chief spokesperson for Historic Speedwell. Provides leadership and direction in developing strategies and implementing programs that ensure sound financial operations. Makes certain the maintenance of professional standards in the acquisition, care and documentation of the collection. Ensures that management decisions are made in the context of the mission of Historic Speedwell, available staff and financial resources, established exhibition and educational philosophies and established long-range plans. With the Board of Trustees, supervises the design and implementation of successful corporate and individual membership drives and annual giving campaigns. Coordinates special events/projects aimed to general population. Promotes the museum through basic public relations and is responsible for quarterly newsletter and maintenance of web site. Maintains positive contact with various museum constituencies (city, county, misc. associations, etc.) Manages museum marketing and media efforts (i.e., brochures, flyers, newsletter, press and other media) Manages Museum Gift Shop, tracking and maintaining inventory, ordering stock Manages museum property including rental property. Responsible for housekeeping and general maintenance of buildings and grounds.
