Dear Listers,
Our Museums and Archive are located on a small college campus with over
200 years of accumulated material culture and history. After many years
of prodding, the Administration is coming around to the realization that
the College's history (and future) is tied to its accumulated material
culture. The two Museums and Archive personnel have the experience and
training to execute this initial campus wide survey and resulting
database.
Question. Has anyone attempted a comprehensive identification and
control system - from scratch - on this scale (80 buildings) that could
point out the pitfalls and "best practice" ideas? We are looking for a
way to attach a "better than ballpark" number to personnel involved
(hours x position) and materials and supplies involved (bar code?
digital photo/database?). Any insight would be appreciated.
