Hello! I would like to offer two or three outreach programs. Our educational programming is rather new and still developing, and I have a number of questions about how other museums operate their outreach. I really appreciate any input you can give me. 1. Do you charge a fee for outreach programming? If so, do you charge per session, per class, per student, or some other way? 2. Do you limit the size of the group? Will you work with one classroom at a time or do you do assembly-type programs? 3. How did you decide what topics to offer programs on? I have the local school district's curriculum guide for the elementary grades, and could plan programs around these and our own mission statement. However, we recently offered two storytelling/singing outreach programs that were requested by one group, though they were part of a well-known, widespread, popular outreach organization. I have considered doing a survey, asking teachers what topics they would like to see offered, whether they feel a certain price is OK, etc. DO you think this would be worth my time and the cost involved in postage? I could get a survey to each teacher in the district for free, but may have to cover return postage. 4. Do you limit the distance you will travel to? If not, do you then charge mileage for schools that are a great distance from your site? So far, these are the questions I need to answer. Thank you all for your input!
