well, i'm not sure whether there is a definition of terminal degree, but
if you mean a degree that can be awarded itself, both the ma and the mfa
apply.  however, in both cases you can go on to higher degrees.  the ma,
obviously, can go on to a phd, while the mfa can go on to the da - the
doctor of arts.  (in some cases there may also be a mphil, which i believe
is an intermediate step in some degrees between ma and phd, and again, i
am not sure, but i think is not a terminal degree).
