MUSEUM PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES This print and WWW-based course engages you in an exploration of the traditions of the museum profession and the evolving roles and functions of museums in contemporary society. Newly revised course materials provide practicing and future museum professionals with an overview of current issues, and enhance your ability to: o appreciate the past, present and future contexts and frameworks in which museum work takes place o engage in current debates around the purpose of museums with knowledge of all aspects of museum operations o build your understanding of the role of museums in service to society and to communities o understand the functional areas of museum work, their processes and their interrelationship within the museum as a complex organization o forge crucial links between philosophical foundations and professional practice o strengthen your professional network Dates: September 18, 2000- April 27, 2001 Please register by: August 28 (late registrations will be considered if space permits) Fees: $640 Canadian, including tuition of $453 and a program fee of $187.
