No: TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional JOB DESCRIPTION: Works at the Sam Rayburn House Museum performing tasks related to collections management. Duties will involve registration, cataloging, inventory control, minor conservation and other issues related to the artifact collections. Requires contact with the public through research, tours or outreach. Works under the supervision of the site director. Must be organized and able to set priorities to meet deadlines. Must be able to use initiative and independent judgment under general supervision. Work must be extremely accurate. Individual must be reliable, punctual and responsible. Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Collection management - includes the cataloging, loaning, research and maintenance of artifact conditions and storage/exhibit environments. Collections Records Management - includes the completion and filing of all documentation pertaining to collections and loans, including accession forms, donor records, catalog files, document file information and photographs, development and enhancement of computerization methods for records. Objects conservation - assists with monitoring of environment, preventative conservation for artifacts, preventative conservation for built-form artifacts and landscape elements, education and direction of staff and volunteer activities to preserve artifacts and buildings, direction of housekeeping activities for exhibit areas. Artifact Inventory Control - maintain inventory of artifacts in storage or on display, adjust records to reflect movement of artifacts, initiate any necessary deaccession or accession actions, provide records research as required. Public Contact - assist with research, preparation and installation of temporary exhibits and maintenance of all exhibit areas. Special Projects - participation in planning, set-up and implementation of activities relating to special events; assist with development of policies or plans for site or collections security and maintenance during such events. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (License, Education, Experience): Bachelor's degree in museum studies, historic preservation, American studies or a closely-related field. Knowledge of principles, concepts and methodology of collections management acquired through work experience or study. Special preferred knowledge: conservation methods and theory, historic preservation methods and theory, registration methods, education and interpretation methods, research methods. Experience - minimum of one year of museum experience or comparable experience in a related field. Requires operation of standard office equipment such as telephone, photocopier and computer. Must be able to plan and coordinate work load with other staff members. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb stairs.
