The painter who emerges as the possible, and likely, author of these masterpieces is Cavallini, an extraordinary artist of the same period as the frescoes creation. This documentary develops the arguments surrounding this issue and provides valid testimony by Federico Zeri, a leading art historian and author of numerous books. These frescoes are not only considered a keystone to the study of world art history, but were recently ravaged by earthquakes and were damaged considerably, which brought the spotlight upon the history of these masterworks. Federico Zeri is an expert in Italian paintings of the 14th to 16th centuries. In 1995, Zeri became the only Italian to be awarded membership of France’s Academy of Fine Arts. Zeri was an art history professor at the University of Rome and taught at several American Universities including Harvard and Columbia. In addition to his brilliance in academic circles, Zeri’s fame also stems from his ironic and outspoken personality.
