In an incredibly entertaining and enlightening fashion, Giotto Non
Giotto captures the beauty of the frescoes within the Basilica of
Assisi, and explores the debate on the attribution of these masterworks
to Giotto.

In cooperation with Federico Zeri, one of the most renowned
connoisseurs and critics of art history in the world, 'Giotto Non
Giotto' is a documentary dedicated to the current debate on the
attribution of the frescoes within the Basilica of Assisi to Giotto.
A documentary film featuring the famed frescoes of Assisi and
the debate raging about the authorship of these frescoes that
has, until recently, been always unquestionably attributed to
Giotto. The painter who emerges as the possible, and likely,
author of these masterpieces is Cavallini, an extraordinary artist
of the same period as the frescoes creation. This documentary
develops the arguments surrounding this issue and provides valid
testimony by Federico Zeri, a leading art historian and author of
numerous books. These frescoes are not only considered a
keystone to the study of world art history, but were recently
ravaged by earthquakes and were damaged considerably, which
brought the spotlight upon the history of these masterworks.
With beautiful imagery of the works themselves, as well as
compelling testimony by critics, 'Giotto Non Giotto' provides
insight to this vital debate.

Federico Zeri is an expert in Italian paintings of the 14th to
16th centuries. In 1995, Zeri became the only Italian to be
awarded membership of France’s Academy of Fine Arts. Zeri was
an art history professor at the University of Rome and taught at
several American Universities including Harvard and Columbia. In
addition to his brilliance in academic circles, Zeri’s fame also stems
from his ironic and outspoken personality.
