Dear Colleagues: I would like to thank everyone who responded to my query, "Why store artifacts in a safe." I found that everybody's response was insightful and helpful. I can see why many monetarily high valued items should be stored in a safe in order to provide additional security. Many rings and coins in our collection are kept in a safe and I can see why with the rising sales of sports memorabilia. As to the environmental conditions in a safe, our museum has been awarded a CAP grant and will undergo a conservation assessment in the fall. I will address the environmental conditions of our safe to the conservator carrying out the assessment. Thanks again for the responses.
