CURATOR

The Circus World Museum seeks an energetic and enterprising Curator for its diverse small artifacts collection. Successful completion of initial goals can lead to involvement with the Museum's renowned vehicle collection or the National Historic Landmark Ringlingville area and its seven historic structures. The Curator will be an important member of the group that leads the Museum to re-achieve AAM accreditation.

The Curator will manage, catalog and arrange a modest-sized, but broad scope collection of artifacts that includes circus performance props, musical instruments, tools, traveling show equipment, wardrobe, furniture, lighting and other associated items. Cataloging will be performed on an ARGUS system recently developed for the State Historical Society of Wisconsin collections. The artifacts will be arranged within a newly built and furnished artifacts collection facility.

Qualified candidates will have an M. A. in museum studies and relevant work experience. Computer and technical expertise, along with strong organizational abilities and excellent communication skills, are necessary.

The Circus World Museum is owned by the State Historical Society of Wisconsin but operated and managed by the independent Circus World Museum Foundation, Inc. under a lease-management agreement. It is the largest museum dedicated solely to documenting and interpreting the history of the circus in America. It is located in the beautiful south central Wisconsin area, within one hour of Madison, WI.

The starting salary range is $28,000 to $32,000 per year, plus benefits. Please send your cover letter, resume and salary history to Circus World Museum, Attention: Fred Dahlinger, Jr., Director, Collections and Research, 550 Water Street, Baraboo, WI 53913-2597.
