NATIVE ARTS RAFFLE

The Alutiiq Heritage Foundation is holding their 2nd  Native Arts Raffle to benefit the Alutiiq Museum.  1,000 tickets will be sold at $20.00 each.  Six tickets will be drawn during the Alutiiq Museum’s 5th Anniversary on Friday May 12, 2000 at 215 Mission Road.  Prizes include artwork by Jerry Laktonen, Lisa McCormick, Dolly Reft, Carl Gronn, Lena Amason, and Grace Harrod.  Each piece contributed to the event is made by an Alaska Native or is inspired by traditional Native arts.  Tickets are available at the Alutiiq Museum Store, the Kodiak Area Native Association and the Kodiak Tribal Council.  For more information call 486-7004.

The first ticket drawn will be for Jerry Laktonen’s “Seasons”, a Ceremonial Kayak Paddle, made from Afognak clear spruce, acrylic paint, artificial sinew and beads.  Displayed in a fabric lined, shadow box frame, the approximate size is 27”L x 7”W .  This piece of art is retail valued at $450.00.  The second ticket drawn will be for an  18kt Gold and Sterling Silver Petroglyph Pin by Lisa McCormick.  This piece, like Lisa’s entire line, is conceived, designed and fabricated by her.  This pin can also be worn as a pendant and is valued at $350.00.   The third ticket drawn will receive a Crown of Thorns Picture frame and ornaments by Carl Gronn, Sr.  The Thorn shaped pieces of wood fit together to form this red cedar frame and twelve cedar and spruce ornaments.  The design of both the frame and ornaments originates in Bergen, Norway and the retail value is $305.00.  The 4th ticket drawn wins an Alutiiq Roots & Remedies Gift Basket and Seal Skin Wallet, made by Dolly Reft.  Dolly produces homemade soaps, teas, and salves made from seal oil, wild plants, berries, and flowers indigenous to Kodiak.  The retail value of this basket of goodies is $310.00.   The 5th  ticket drawn will take home a Fish Head Sculpture by Lena Amason.  Valued at $200.00, this sculpture is made from bass wood, copper, enamel, and oil paint and was inspired by traditional dance masks.  Actual size of sculpture is 8” x 8” x 51/2”.   The last ticket drawn is a Beach Rye Grass Coil Basket made by Grace Harrod.  This mini basket is valued at $150.00.  You can view the raffle prizes on our web site at http://www.ptialaska.net/%7Ealutiiq2/raffle.htm
