JOB TITLE:      DIRECTOR, Huhugam Heritage Center
SALARY:  $58,347.96 Per annum (30)
REPORTS TO:  Coordinator, Cultural Resources Management Program
SUPERVISES: Personnel Assigned

OVERVIEW:    
Will have primary responsibility for the implementation of the Program Management Plan for the Huhugam Heritage Center Including plans for administration, staffing, financial management, operation and programs.  The plan will be correlated with a construction time line.  General supervision is provided by the Coordinator, Cultural Resources Management Program.

        DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Implements all phases of the Program Management Plan for the Huhugam
Heritage Center in consultation with the Cultural Resources Coordinator;

2.      Serves as point of contact with the Bureau of Reclamation with regard to Central Arizona Project collections;

3.      Supervises staff positions and consultant at the Center;

4.      Administers all financial transactions and activities, including annual budget accounting;

5.      Provides direction and supervision for program development;

6.      Monitors daily operations of all aspects of the Center and its activities;

7.      Directs marketing and public relations efforts;

8.      Insures that curatorial/collections staff adhere to all Tribal and Federal regulations;

9.      Directs training and professional development of staff

10.     Provides written monthly reports to the Coordinator, Cultural Resources Management Program;

11.     Prepares and submits Center budget to the Coordinator, Cultural Resource

Management Program;

12.     Performs other duties as directed by the Cultural Resource Coordinator or Board of Trustees;

AUTHORITY:      As set forth by the Coordinator, Cultural Resource Management Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      Doctorate degree preferred in Southwest archaeology, anthropology, history or a related field, MA required;

2.      Demonstrated knowledge of the museum profession and evidence of continued participation in museum management courses, seminars and workshops.  Ten years of experience working in a museum or Native American Cultural Center;

3.      Knowledge of human resources management systems, with demonstrated ability to delegate authority and establish a good working relationship with staff;

4.      Knowledge of financial development, budget monitoring and an ability to interpret budgets and manage all ongoing fiscal aspects of the Center's operation and  facility;       

5.      Knowledge of legal aspects of museum operations and of current federal legislation affecting museums;

6.      Familiarity with all facets of museum programmatic operations, especially collections management, exhibition development, educational programming, visitor operations and public relations/marketing services;

7.      Ability to implement policy directives established by Board of Trustees and approved by Cultural Resources Coordinator;

8.      Ability to encourage and instill support of Center's governing body to support and participate in Center's goals and objectives as specified in the Program Management Plan;

9.      Ability to supervise effectively;

10.     Must attend meetings beyond regular work hours and weekly staff meetings;

11.     Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing;

12.     Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people of varied economic, educational and cultural backgrounds;

13.     Physical and emotional condition adequate to meet the demands of assigned duties;

14.     Must be able to obtain a Tribal Driving Permit and must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and provide proof or past driving record for the past thirty-nine (39) months from the Department of Motor Vehicle (TO BE SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATION);

15.     Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug - Free Workplace as a condition of employment with the Gila River Indian Community;

16.     Preference is given to qualified members of the Gila River Indian Community.
