     You are invited to attend the third annual Museums Australia 1996
     conference "Power and Empowerment" which will be held over 4 days from
     October 30 - November 2 in Sydney, Australia.

     Museums operate within complex power relationships - this conference
     sets out to identify and unravel many of the important issues which
     are associated with these dynamics by focusing on 3 themes:
     * politics poeple and power
     * revisiting the museum
     * towards the new millenium
     It will look at how power operates in relation to criticism, issues
     such as reconciliation with Indigenous Australia, social change, local
     communities and a rapidly changing technological environemnt.
     An exciting program featuring international and Australian speakers,
     as well as a lively and informal socila program has been planned.
