You may also consider contacting Paul Semonin, author of "American Monster".
It is a book about the beginnings of paleontology in the US during
revolutionary times, and Jefferson's work, including "Notes", is a major
part of it. I believe that he lives in Eugene, OR and often teaches at
Oregon State University.

Hi Christian,

Try contacting the folks at the Massachusetts Historical Society.  I know
they recently preserved a version of "Notes" that is an early draft,
complete edits.  They may be able to help.
