Technical Information Service of (TIS) of AAM announces:

Preservation of Library & Archival Materials: A Manual

A comprehensive, easy to use and understand guide to preservation of paper
based archival materials, this manual was developed for the museum or
archives that does not have access to or funds for professional conservation
treatments to solve their problems. It focuses on preventive care for the
entire collection rather than for single objects, and includes proper
planning, storage, handling, emergency management, environmental conditions,
and security. Rather than setting out unattainable, optimal conservation
standards, the articles guide museums and archives in determining what is
possible within their means and then provides information they can use to
improve care of the collection.

The Preservation Manual is intended to be used by staff who have little or no
professional conservation training or experience, but want to upgrade
standards of care in order to better preserve materials. Illustrated
procedures, extensive lists of equipment, materials and supply companies and
further reading supplement most sections of the book and were updated in 1996
for this printing.

Originally produced by the Northeast Document Conservation Center in Andover,
MA, and redesigned and reprinted byTIS for its Professional Practice Series.
