Restoration Specialist.  Historic Brattonsville, a 775-acre 18th and 19th
century historic site museum in York County, South Carolina seeks an
energetic individual for a new position to ensure the professional
documentation, restoration and maintenance of its historic and reproduction
structures. Historic Brattonsville is one of three York County Culture &
Heritage Museum (CHM) sites located within the Charlotte, NC metropolitan
region, population 1.7 million.
CHM operates on a $3.2 million budget and is currently in the midst of a
capital campaign including the expansion of Historic Brattonsville’s
multi-generational cotton plantation to encompass the period between the mid
18th and early 20th century.  The site has over 40 historic and
reconstructed buildings.
The position is responsible for, among other things, documenting existing
conditions and all alterations to the site’s buildings, developing cyclical
maintenance plans and ensuring that that appropriate measures are
undertaken, identifying restoration priorities, generating specifications
for restoration work and insuring that specifications and proper techniques,
materials, technologies are employed by contractors and staff, conducting
and/or overseeing restoration work, assisting in identifying and writing
grants, and conducting research to support the preservation and restoration
of the site’s buildings.
Candidates should have a degree in or equivalent experience in historic
preservation or related field or trade; possess excellent speaking and
writing skills, and have a good understanding of architectural history,
preservation and restoration theory and practices.  Ability to perform
restoration work is preferred.  CHM is an Equal Opportunity Employer
