Most of the membership organisations to which I belong don't offer any refunds.  In the UK it would cause tax complications to refund a membership where the organisation had claimed back the members tax.

English Heritage allows members to cancel and receive a refund within 30 days if they have joined by post or over the internet and return all their membership materials.  As far as I am aware they don't get this option if they join at one of our sites.
