Apply Now for the 9th Annual Museum Institute at Sagamore

The Museum Institute at Sagamore is an opportunity for museum staff from
small and mid-sized museums to network, reflect on their work, and 
learn new
skills. The year's Institute focuses on the Public Dimension of Museums 
and
runs from September 26-29. The Institute will cover topics including 
Who are
our Audiences--What do they want?, Family Learning and Generation Y Case
Studies, Using Storytelling and Museum Theater, Your Audience on the 
Web,
Shoestring Marketing, Effective Collaborations, Program Evaluation and
Planning for Real Change. Presenters include James Chung and Susie
Wilkening, Reach Advisors; Cynthia Copeland of the New-York Historical
Society; Stuart Chase, Berkshire Museum; Bill Adair, Rosenbach Museum; 
Thom
Thacker, Phillipsburg Manor at Historic Hudson Valley; Katherine Myers, 
Mass
MoCA; D. Stephen Elliott, New York State Historical Association/Farmers
Museum, and Catherine Harris, independent consultant.

Previous Institute participants have consistently rated it as one of 
their
most valuable professional development experiences, sharing comments 
such
as:

"I have learned so much. New ideas, possibilities, and changes that will
create a much more engaging museum,"
"All the presenters were great...the most valuable conference I have 
been
to"
"invigorating and enlightening."

The Institute is held at Great Camp Sagamore in New York's  Adirondack
Mountains. Camp Sagamore is a National Historic Landmark in a beautiful 
and
historic setting.

Attendance at the Institute is by application only. Applications are
available on the Upstate History Alliance website, 
www.upstatehistory.org
and are due July 15. Go grants are available for New York State 
participants
to defray the cost of travel to professional development opportunities 
such
as these--visit the grants section of UHA's website. The cost of the 
entire
institute,  including food,  lodging and all conference materials is 
$350
for individuals working in New York State museums,  $500 for out of 
state
participants.  Preference is given to New York State participants.   The
institute is made possible,  in part, by support from the Museum 
Program of
the New York State Council on the Arts.
