You can ask an accountant, or look in a beginning accounting book, for
the different types of records that were kept (still are, I believe,
but maybe in different formats).  As I recall, daybooks were the
running record, with info sorted and transfered to other books (all
for one business grouped together, etc.).  Everything should balance.

       Hello again,

       First of all, thank you to those of you who responded to my
       education collection question.  You were all very helpful.

       Now my next question is...What is the difference between historic
       account books, daybooks, journals, ledgers, etc.?  And/or where can
       I find information on this?  I will be transcribing some soon but I
       need to know exactly what I will be transcribing first.
