As a visitor I found the audio tours distracting. I felt unable to interact
with others in my group and it is difficult to ask a cassette player
questions. You might try using speakers placed throughout your tour that
can be activated by a button or motion sensor. While this still does not
allow the visitor to ask questions at least the visitors are able to
communicate more with each other than they would while wearing headphones.

Subject: audio tours

We are an outdoor museum looking to design and implement an audio tour.
What are other people's experiences with audio tours and equipment at
outdoor museums? I am interested in both the visitor and museum
perspectives. I'd appreciate any comments and suggestions.

Many thanks,

Susan
