Two educator positions are currently open at the Maryland Historical
Society.

Title: School Programs Coordinator
Full time: 35 hours/wk
Description of Work:
The Maryland Historical Society seeks an educator to be responsible for
the administration, growth, development, and promotion of existing and
new school-day programs.  The School Programs Coordinator works as part
of the education team in developing both onsite and outreach
activities.  Current school programming reaches a statewide audience of
50,000 and includes: thematic onsite tours; a diverse array of outreach
progams including traveling trunks, primary source kits, living history
actors, classroom presentations, and slide packets; and statewide
teacher workshops.  The School Programs Coordinator will develop the
vision and strategic plans for programs, serve as the school programs
team leader, direct museum/school partnerships, direct MHS participation

in History Day, serve as the primary liason with Maryland teachers, plan

and coordinate guide training sessions, and assist in securing program
support in the form of grants, sponsorships, and program partnerships.
In addition, the coordinator will serve on exhibition development teams
in conceptualizing, developing, and producing museum exhibits.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Applicant should have previous classroom experience, knowledge/interest
in Maryland history, understanding of childhood development and learning

theory, project management experience and proven skill in facilitating
project teams, museum education, and evaluation.  Applicant should have
excellent communication skills, grant-writing experience, and
proficiency in MS Word and relational databases.  Ability to work
flexible hours and maintain good working relationships with volunteers,
staff, and community groups a must.

Training and Experience:
This position requires a B.A. with a preference given to applicants with

an M.A. in museum education or history and additional museum experience.

Salary: mid-twenties with full benefits.

Title: Outreach Programs Assistant
Part time: 15 hours/wk
Description of Work:
The Outreach Programs Assistant will manage day-to-day administration of

all outreach programs including traveling trunks, slide packets, primary

source kits, and classroom presentations and work as a team member in
the education division of MHS.  The assistant takes reservations,
solicits and collects fees, and maintains all records for school
outreach programs.  In addition, responsibilities include maintaining
clear communication with living history presenters, maintaining
databases for all school programs and outreach activities, maintaining
hands-on areas of MHS, and assisting with departmental activities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
The successful applicant will have strong organizational and
prioritization skills, excellent customer service skills, experience
working in a team environment, and proficiency in MS Word and relational

databases.

Training and Experience:
The successful applicant will have a B.A. and/or 4 years of related job
experience.
