                                POSITION DESCRIPTION

MARKETING ASSISTANT

Scope of Position:

To assist in the creation, planning and execution of Library advertising,
promotion, publicity, sales, merchandising and special event programs.

Responsibilities:

--Produce promotional materials including self-mailers, invitations,
flyers, etc.  Use in-house desk top publishing when possible.  Assistant
should either have or be willing to develop the ability to design and
produce announcements, invitations, etc. ready for printing/copying.

--Coordinate creation and placement of advertising and maintain positive
liaison with our designated sales epresentatives.

--Assist in scheduling and executing appropriate event programs including
theme days and weekends, author appearances, speakers, policy
conferences, and school editor forums.

--Liaison with Special Event Docents on event needs, and hold briefings
with assigned Docent group prior to each
program.

--Assist the Assistant Director and the Museum Store Manager in special
merchandising projects such as book ordering for author appearances,
buying and selling of memorabilia, and development of new product and
sales programs for both the museum and internet stores.

--Assist in press release writing and distribution as needed and
assigned.

--Be responsible for blast faxing press announcements.

--Assist in the development and planning of special sales programs to
build attendance and merchandise revenue.

--Coordinate with local schools to assure the assignment of at least one
capable intern each semester, and supervise the intern's work activity.

--Develop internal staffing assignments for special events to assure that
events, such as living history encampments, are properly staffed.

--Produce weekly announcement ads for Sunday concerts and check with
Director of Communications on any special concert needs.

--Be responsible for programming messages for our electronic sign
directly on Yorba Linda Boulevard.  Maintain a log of messages including
public service announcements.

--Be responsible for maintaining adequate supplies of rack cards and
other promotional flyers.  Supervise distribution of rack cards through
Certified Folders.

--Maintain Library mailing lists and liaison with Arrow Computer to
constantly update lists and supervise addressing and mailing of materials
in a timely manner.  Develop new lists as needed (car show, concerts,
summer history camp, etc.)

--Maintain a preferred vendor list and solicit three competitive bids on
services over $500.

--Process invoices for services received, comparing amount billed with
original estimate and authorization.  See that once bills are approved by
Assistant Director they are promptly given to Accounting for payment.

--Be available at Library special events to assist as needed, from set up
to clean up, including supervision of audio visual, photography,
catering, reception, guest and VIP hospitality, staging, press
coordination, and event program.

--Maintain positive working relationship with all other departments and
communicate marketing/event programming
plans and needs.

Full time, entry level position with medical and dental benefits.
