incandescent lights do last much longer when run at voltages that are
lower than the rated voltage. (I am told that when people go to the
attic and enter a room that has been sealed for many years they sometimes
find a bulb burning. When the maker sends a team out to study this
amazing bulb 9 times out of 10 its a 220 volt bulb running on 110.)

The problem with adjusting the brightness with a dimmer is you also
change the color of the light.
