        GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
        Responsible to the Region 7 Director for the preservation,
protection, operation and maintenance of Admiral Nimitz State Historical
Site to include the Admiral Nimitz Museum and historical center.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: financial
management/budget planning, human resources, maintenance of facilities and
equipment, resource management, customer service, education and interpretive
programming, community outreach, revenue management, and volunteer
development and coordination. Park Manager will also be responsible for
special projects as assigned by the Regional Director.
        WORKING CONDITIONS:
        (1) Forty-hour week includes flexible schedule, hours other than
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturday, Sunday and
holidays; (2) Subject to call for emergency situations; (3) Some travel will
be required; (4) Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work
rules and safety standards; (5) Must participate and be active in civic
organizations for local and site activities as they relate to historical
site; (6) State housing is NOT provided but residency in the
Fredericksburg/vicinity is critical, essential and expected for active local
participation, and is therefore strongly encouraged and recommended.
        MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
        Education: (1) Graduation from an accredited college or university
with a Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Wildlife/Fisheries
Science, Range and Wildlife, Forestry and Wildlife, Biology, Natural
Resource Conservation, Archaeology, Texas History or closely related field;
(2) TPWD employees hired prior to January 1, 1998 may substitute up to two
years of TPWD responsible experience in park, supervision and operations for
the required education at the rate of one year of experience equals 30
semester hours, with a maximum substitution of two years of work experience
for 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
        Experience: Five years experience in park/museum related site
(national, state, county, municipal, private) with experience in the areas
of natural and cultural resource conservation and/or recreational
opportunities, to include functional park/museum operation, facility,
equipment, systems and grounds maintenance and repairs, administrative
procedures, human resource management, and/or museum related management.
        License: Must possess or be able to obtain within 30 days, a valid
Texas driver's license.
        SELECTION CRITERIA:
        Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (1) Knowledge of administration;
(2) Skill in supervision and training of personnel and organizing/scheduling
work; (3) Knowledge of budgeting and accounting; (4) Knowledge of operating
tools and mechanized equipment utilizing proper techniques for the
maintenance and/or repair of grounds, facilities and utility systems; (5)
Ability to efficiently plan and carry out programs of minor construction and
repair; (6) Knowledge of safe working habits and ability to consistently
comply with agency safety guidelines; (7) Knowledge of customer service,
public relations, promotions, marketing, business development, revenue
enhancement and park concessions; (8) Knowledge of natural and cultural
resource management; (9) Ability to carry out specific resource procedures
and requirements; (10) Ability to develop beneficial relationships with
various environmental organizations, volunteers, civic groups, special
interest groups and others; (11) Ability to plan, develop, recruit, train,
and direct educational/interpretive/outreach requirements; (12) Ability to
train, motivate, schedule and manage park staff and volunteers; (13) Ability
to communicate both verbally and in writing with fellow employees and
visiting public in an effective manner; (14) Skill in the use of personal
computers; (15) Ability to consistently interpret and enforce state and
federal laws and park rules and regulations.
