Hello List-ers

I have recently been given the task of writing my museums' "Contemporary
Collecting Policy" and am finding it hard to come up with ideas as to how to
broaden the collections and make them more representative of our local
communities. We are a local history museum and what we ideally want to end
up with is a collection that 1) represents every ethnic group in our
community and 2) represents the locality as it is today. Can anyone out
there offer any advice? How have you encouraged ethnic communities to become
involved in museum collection activities? How have you gone about collecting
modern material culture representative of your institutions collection
policy? What events/activities have you arranged/taken part in to encourage
new donations?

If anyone is willing to share with me their own Contemporary Collections
Policy, that would be wonderful (I can be contacted off list via the e-mail
address below).

I would also like to add that I am thinking of doing this topic for my M.A.
Dissertation, so all help is gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance
