I've been asked to post the following message to the list. If anyone has
any comments or would like to provide insight into their own uses with 3-D
imaging software, please respond. I will forward what I receive to my
friend. Thanks for your help! Angela

The message is as follows:
Please give me your thoughts on the usefulness of scanners and software
that create accurate 3 dimensional images of objects such as artifacts and
art-pieces. There are a number of companies out there selling such products
at increasingly reasonable prices, and a few of the products work very
well.

I think museums are logical users of such scanners and software for
curational purposes. Also, museum-users can study objects on-line, floppy,
whatever. Ofcourse, 3 dimensional renditions that can be turned 360 degrees
might add a lot of meaning to on-line museum exhibits.

Anyway, I am interested in learning your thoughts about the above potential
uses, if they are already being implemented at some museums, and other
ideas for 3-dimensional imaging.
