The Northeast Document Conservation Center presents Preservation 101:  An
Internet Course on the Basics of Paper Preservation

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) is offering a free
Internet course on basic paper preservation to small collections-holding
institutions and private collectors, including historical organizations,
town records offices, libraries, archives, and museums.  The course is
designed to assist collections care staff to understand better the nature of
paper collections and causes of deterioration.  With a focus on preventive
preservation, the program will provide basic information and practical
solutions to help improve your collections  storage, care and handling.  The
course will also address housekeeping, care of photographs, disaster
preparedness, and archival methods for organizing your holdings.
Preservation 101 is funded by NCPTT, National Center for Preservation
Technology and Training, U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park
Service.

Preservation 101 consists of eight lessons to be posted over a four-week
period from June 25 through July 20, 2001 providing on-line readings and
optional assignments, bulletin board discussion, self-testing questions,
further resources, and interaction with the faculty and other participants.
The course will be presented by Beth L. Patkus, Preservation Consultant,
along with guest faculty, and technical assistance from Webmistress Kim O
Leary.  Registration is limited to 250 participants and will be restricted
to one applicant per institution, so register early.

All applicants must have a computer with a minimum 14400 modem and access to
the Internet (Netscape or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher), and email.  To
register fill out the Registration Request Form at <www.nedcc.org> and
submit to NEDCC.  Confirmation of acceptance will be emailed by June 15,
2001.
