Some more great places:

In New Orleans - The Presbytere; The Louisiana State Museum; Audubon Zoo;
Historic New Orleans Collection; Civil War Museum; New Orleans Museum of
Art; City Park: and of course the French Quarter

North of New Orleans on the river a few hours is Natchez, MS. It has several
antebellum houses, some are open every day, some are only open during
Pilgrimage. There is also an indian mound near by, although it is not
Cahokia-esque.

Memphis, TN is also along the river - I'm sure there are several fun things
to do there - at least Graceland. Also in and near Nashville, there is the
Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's house) and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Just a few neat places off the top of my head! (Sorry, if this is not new to
you)
