Elizabeth (and others):

Since the opening of the Van Gogh exhibit at the National Gallery of Art, I
am told that individuals have begun congregating as early as 6:00 or 7:00
a.m. Ticket distribution begins at 10:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday and
11:00 a.m. on Sunday. As I pass by the gallery each weekday around 10:00
a.m., the ticket line extends from the north entrance of the west wing to
the southwest corner of the wing, and remains rather long even as late as
11:00 a.m. - noon.

Approximately 2,000 same-day, timed passes are distributed on a first-come,
first-served basis each day. The previous limit of six tickets per person
has been limited to four since 10/28. According to the Gallery's website,
by closing hour on Monday, October 26, 104,114 people had seen the
exhibition, an average of 4,527 per day since it opened on October 4, 1998.

I have heard through the grapevine that for those DC-area hotel guests that
do not want to brave the ticket line, their concierge may be able to work
miracles for $40 or so (They pay linestanders to wait in line for tickets).

For further updates on obtaining tickets for the Van Gogh exhibit, visit the
National Gallery's website at http://www.nga.gov/exhibitions/vginfo.htm

Best of luck--I understand (and assume) that the exhibit is well worth the
trouble of obtaining tickets (I am still waiting for the weekday ticket
lines to decrease, though I am becoming more and more skeptical that that
will happen--at least until our first DC frost).

>Does anyone know what time the ticket line opens for the daily tickets to
the Van Gogh ex? How long do they last? I have friends going to DC this
weekend and they mistakenly believe that I know all there is to know about
such things.
