There are many "museums" (small 'm' intended) that have no,or limited
collections. Children's and Science museums are examples. Perhaps the
word is mis-used in these applications. That is why many of these places
are calling themselves science or discovery 'centers' or avoiding the
possiblity of misconceptions by using made-up names like 'Exploratorium'
for example.
