There are nasty spammers and nastier viruses
proliferating on the web, many using incredibly
deceptive/devious tricks. For some time, I've been
getting ones that purport to be from me--with
attachments--that I've never sent.

Tonight I got one that came with the name Museum-L and
a note that said "New Changes." Uncharacteristically
to Museum-L, it had an attachment. I was suspicious
but wanted to make sure that, if the list owner, John
Chadwick, was invoking some new policy, I didn't want
to miss it. But I also didn't want to get tricked and
unleash the plague from hell on my computer.

I'm telling you because you may receive something
comparable, and you might want to do what I did.

By now, you probably know that list posts are
archived. You can query the archives in many ways.

I went to the archives, located here:

http://home.ease.lsoft.com/archives/museum-l.html

I selected this week's posts and then sorted them by
threat. I then scanned for the subject of the note I
had received.

Needless to say, it wasn't there. It's a pain to have
to take these extra steps, but it saved a great deal
of heartache.

If you receive something suspicious purporting to be
from someone on the list, check the archives before
you click. You may save yourself untold aggravation.
