We are considering using partially real plants that we obtained from a
now-defunct natural history museum in our new dioramas; they consist of
artifical leaves/needles mounted on real stems. Some of the materials
appear to have some kind of colorless surface coating, though we are not
sure what it is.

If we apply a surface treatment to the organic materials, do we still
freeze/fumigate anything that comes in? Any thoughts on a suitable coating
that would reduce bug attraction?

Your input is appreciated, as always.
