     Job Opportunity -Supervisory Museum Specialist- National Park Service

     Supervisory Museum Specialist (GS-9 or GS-11) - The Frederick Law
     Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline, Massachusetts is seeking
     a candidate with experience in project management, archives processing
     and supervision to serve as a manager for the off-site archives
     processing lab in Springfield, Massachusetts. The position offers a
     unique opportunity to work with one of the most widely researched
     collections in the National Park Service.  This is a full-time
     position, not to exceed four years.

     The Supervisory Museum Specialist manages a complex, multi-year
     project to catalog and conserve select records of Frederick Law
     Olmsted, Sr. and his sons, associates and successor firms.  Reporting
     to the Supervisory Archivist, the Supervisory Museum Specialist
     supervises the archives processing lab located in Springfield,
     Massachusetts.  This position oversees staff performing basic paper
     conservation and cataloguing of a collection of large format landscape
     architectural plans and drawings and associated textual materials
     dating from 1860s to 1980.

     Primary duties include: directing and coordinating technician level
     work; supervising staff; scheduling lab activities; carrying out
     established intermediate and basic paper conservation treatments;
     directing staff in use of collections management software and data
     entry; maintaining records systems for collections accountability;
     surveying and evaluating museum collections to determine preservation
     and processing needs;  human resource management; recruit and hire of
     new technicians; training of new personnel; managing annual budget;
     assisting with partnership agreements; managing collections storage
     areas; managing Local Area Network; purchasing custom archival storage
     materials; assuring that safety procedures are followed.

     Secondary duties may include: assisting with project funding requests
     and grant writing; preparing reports on project progress; assisting
     with establishment of Emergency Operation Plan (EOP) for lab.

     Starting salary if filled at the GS-9 is $34,575 (salary range $34,575
     - $44,945.00).  Starting salary if filled at the GS-11 is $41,834
     (salary range $41,834 - $54,385.00).

     The position will be open from June 26, 2000 - July 10, 2000.
