We do not advertise the location of storage or collections offices to either the public or staff. This is done for security reasons. The local fire dept. knows the layout of the building for fire emergencies, but that is the only group outside of the insitution who know.

We will be moving into a new artifact storage wing this spring. The
entrance to it is off the entrance to our new observatory so it will
have public traffic quite often. I do not want to identify the wing by
naming it However, there is pressure to name it thus announcing to
visitors what is beyond the door. It will be secured with an alarm
system. But it seems to me that it would be an invitation to a would be
thief to draw attention to it by hanging a name on it . I would like to
know how many of you hang up a sign naming this area of your museum, and
what you think of this idea. Thanks for your help. Phyllis
