To All of You:

The Dayton and Montgomery County Public Library has published the
proceedings of the symposium "Preserving the Wright Brothers' Legacy"
held in Dayton on October 22, 1999. This publication provides complete
historical information about important events in aviation history, the
location of early aviation's artifacts, and the location of archival
collections. It contains a chronology written by Dr. Tom Crouch, Senior
Curator of the Smithsonian Institution. Dr. Crouch was awarded an
honorary degree at Wright State University's June 2001 Commencement for
his work in aviation history. In addition to providing the general
public with a complete view of all holdings on the subject, the
publication will aid archivists, curators and historians in preparing
their exhibits and obtaining items of importance on loan. Researchers
will be able to locate archival collections for their writings as well
as Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) of websites, a chronology of events,
and telephone numbers and addresses of responsible people at
institutions with Wright brothers holdings. Mrs. Elli Bambakidis,
Archivist at the Dayton and Montgomery County Public Library, edited the
volume.

This project was designed to complement Dayton's aviation heritage as
the region plans for the Centennial of Flight celebration in 2003, which
will include events orchestrated by Inventing Flight: Dayton 2003.
According to Dr. Crouch, the publication's "individual papers are first
rate… the volume as a whole is well put together, nicely designed and
quite attractive."
